Handsome, clever and rich, Emma Woodhouse spends her days playing matchmaker with her friends. But if she’s not careful, her meddling could cause more problems than it solves. Inspired by Jane Austen’s beloved comedy of the same name, Emma stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Bill Nighy and Johnny Flynn.
Sat in church alongside her father (Bill Nighy), Emma Woodhouse (Anya Taylor-Joy) proudly takes credit for the wedding of Mr Weston (Rupert Graves) and Mrs Weston (Gemma Whelan). Having introduced the pair not so long ago, the socialite concludes she must be a master matchmaker.
Returning to her sleepy hometown, Emma decides to continue offering her special service, now focussing her attention on uniting friend Harriet Smith (Mia Goth) with local vicar Mr Elton (Josh O’Connor). But love is never so simple, and difficulties naturally ensue.
Emma’s relentless matchmaking knows no bounds, however, and she’s determined to keep on playing cupid. Navigating between friends and family, the handsome, clever, and rich young aristocrat discovers glittering romance at every turn – but not always between the right people. If she doesn’t watch her step, though, Emma’s meddling could end in disaster.
Making her feature debut, director Autumn de Wilde brings us Emma, the latest adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel of the same name. Laced with comedy, this hilarious drama stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Peaky Blinders, Glass, The Witch), Bill Nighy (The Bookshop, Their Finest, About Time) and Johnny Flynn (Genius, Clouds of Sils Maria, Beast).
